Amity

Two palms press close together as
Ten fingers interlace.
Eight limbs shake both in fear and bliss;
Two heartbeats increase pace.

Four eyes then lock in trance, in awe,
Two lips, the others, test;
Two minds echo the same three words,
Four feet content to rest.

Three months since glued together with
Two bold statements of love;
One bond holds them together, with
No discontent thereof.

One summer their acquaintance made,
One fall it came alive,
One winter now behind them as
One spring burns to arrive.

Leap

The girl who sits within this room,
You do not know at all.
Six months ago when she wrote last,
Three months before her fall.
Three people I have been this year,
None of the three alike.
Summer, fall, and present each the
First, second, third strike.

A stranger to me, practically,
He saw into my heart.
I couldn't fool Him with facade,
Not even from the start.
A smile in my direction once
Or twice was all it took,
To know I was remembered here:
A page in someone's book.
When all else failed and finally
I was prepared to flee,
I stopped and saw Him there and turned
My back on Tennessee.
If I could mark the one thing that
He did to save me then:
He cared enough to listen to me
When I called again.

The same hometown, we never spoke
A word before that day,
But somehow I innately knew
That in my heart She'd stay.
Never once with second thought,
She offered me Her days;
She saw through lies and tear-dried eyes
And each distracted gaze.
With open ears and caring heart,
She nursed me through each week,
Directed me to each new face,
When I still feared to speak.
In making sure I always had
Something to get me by,
She saved me from myself, She was
The first to hear my cry.

and then I took a flying leap.

Bound by old relationships
My eyes were blinded fast
My mind collapsed within itself
To parasite the past.
A sick subject of puppetry
Ruled by no one but self,
The shell of my own entity
Displayed upon the shelf.
Definition inhaled from
A life in other lands,
Unaware that answers were
Within my own, pale hands.
I cut the strings that held me there,
And brought myself to life
To let all things resolve themselves,
No longer slave to strife.

The Three

Fallen, pristine angels sleeping,
Broken, innocent spirits weeping,
Beneath blankets always keeping
Unhealed scars, forever leaping,
Billowed hopes, arms reaching
For foundations. Always preaching
Advantages, but never teaching
Successfully, ever beseeching
The wrong ones.

Always guessing and expecting,
Always trying and perfecting
Shattered lives, never affecting
Aspiration, still deflecting
Any faint chance of forgetting
Every last cause of regretting,
Forever tangled in thick netting,
Worrying, worrying, fretting, fretting
Together and alone.

Decisions made to stop pretending,
Stop the breaking, start the mending,
Turn around, and cease suspending
Struggle that seems never-ending.
Open hearts and tears streaming,
Battered spirits, minds dreaming,
With closed mouths and silenced screaming,
We look upon the sunlight beaming,
And run into the light.

Mother Nature

I walk the Earth, I breathe the air,
Converse so carelessly;
I claim relation to the ones
Who roam so recklessly.

A beating heart and blinking eyes
Do liken me to these
Lost, alone, and hungry men;
I synthesize with ease.

But truth be told, they’ll never know
The hollowness inside
The thumping, pumping, bleeding heart
Which in me still resides.

A month ago just yesterday,
I saw her glowing face;
She pleaded that I go with her
To help her dying race.

She lulled it from inside of me,
My spirit briskly fled;
It followed her through twists and turns
And saw the dismal dread.

A few of them lay dying fast
With green still in their veins,
But most of them, not seen at all,
Were victims of gray chains.

Therefore when man addresses me
And sees the blankest stare,
May he go searching for my soul
And save the martyrs there.

My phantom now succeeds the Mighty
Mother of all dreams.
We beg, beseech, and beckon for
All men to hear our screams.

When man inquires of my thought,
‘Twas worth it, can’t you see?
I sold my soul to open hands,
No, gave it willingly.

Mundo Nuevo

I inhale waves of foreign air,
They fill familiar lungs;
My ears, they brim with sweeter sounds
Of unfamiliar tongues.

My eyes are mesmerized by sights
Of long envisioned dreams;
They are now glued upon the city
As each contour gleams.

A welcomed change from common life,
Predictable at best,
A stretch of treasured landscape now
Extends from east to west.

I step into the promised air
Of destination one,
Whisper in silence, to myself:
Today, I’ve just begun.

My spirit flees before me to
Engorge itself in light;
The willingness inside me is
Inspired to take flight.

The thinning thread that held me up
Was contented to break;
I drifted then onto the ground,
Was shaken wide awake.

Finally free from inhibitions
Of a fastened past,
I am set free to roam Earth with
Elation unsurpassed.

Monster

I am a monster.

They come, they stay, they leave, they flee,
Dissolving into woods.
They screech, they laugh, they squirm, but they
Will not remove their hoods.
These strangers in the darkness take
A liking to my kind,
But once they bolt, these odd creatures
Are not to be defined.

I seem to them an alien,
Peculiar in my ways.
As I attempt to interact,
Their eyes begin to glaze.
They scale the walls and crawl the floors
Exposing sickly aims;
Successful, nonetheless, in their
Uncouth and grimy games.

I never veiled myself in
Company of the unknown,
Unaware that in honesty
I’d be fully alone.
There is no life in secrecy
Nor happiness to find
No matter how they smile or claim
To be so intertwined.

They live and die on islands,
Broken souls lost to the earth.
Exclusion earns them nothing nor
Provides them any worth.
A heartbeat is the only proof that
Any of them lives
But not a one inquires, wonders,
Wishes or forgives.

A mystery in darkness and
Invisible in light,
Their auras reek of apathy
To any human plight.
I must abort my mission and
Discover fellow man
Before I fall a prey to their
Ferocious, rotten clan.

I am a monster,
But they are machines.

Daylight

As burning rays of light descend
Behind exhausted oaks,
The Night ignites her whisper as
The Moon prepares to coax.
They threaten seeping darkness as
We flee the quickening gate;
Increasing speed toward light we dash,
Determined to shun fate.

Ahead we spy a sphere engorged
With incandescent light,
Though at our tails the shadows slink
Achieving Mogul’s plight.
Eyes fixed ahead, we flee Night’s grasp,
She clasps her claws in vain.
At last, we tower affably
Immersed in bright terrain.

Greetings!

Hello friends,

As I continue my job search, I've decided to revive my poetry blog. Not because I want people to read it, but to motivate myself to keep writing and editing my own original work. It's for content purposes rather than aesthetics, so I apologize for the lack of design creativity. If you managed to make your way here, I hope you enjoy.
